Garno's Newsletter

With the 1st XI having now joined the 2nd XI in finishing 2008 as LEAGUE CHAMPIONS, following a comprehensive demolition of Babbacombe in front of a packed house at CHCC and with only a few more weeks of non-league games still to come this season (weather permitting!) there is nontheless still plenty happening at the club over the coming weeks and months and I thought the most sensible thing to do was to put it all in writing so that everyone, especially our new members, has all the necessary info!

So, in date order for your diaries...

Proposed double promotion celebration evening - Hotel Barcelona, EXETER
Friday 12th September

Clinton (07856 284 486) has kindly offered to host a private function for Clyst Hydon members, partners, family and friends etc in the main bar (Kino) of the Hotel Barcelona in Exeter (Clinton's workplace)
Cost would be £12/head to include unlimited buffet. Should be a great night - numbers ASAP direct to Clinton please as there is only a limited amount of time to organise.

CHCC 1st & 2nd XI vs Abberley at CHCC
Sunday 14th September

On Sunday 14th September we host our good friends from Abberley who are once again rounding off their Devon tour with two games against us at CHCC with a sociable evening in the bar afterwards!
Given their respective successes this season this would be a great way for both the 1st & 2nd XI's to finish off the season in celbratory style!
It's never easy to to get two sides out for a non-league game so everyone's committment would be appreciated for this one with availablity please to Hoggy (07764 849 624)
This will also be Dhan's final game for the club this season before he returns back to hotter, sunnier climes (grrr!) in Sri Lanka the following day.

CHCC vs Pentyrch at CHCC
Saturday 20th September

Our other regular tourists and good friends from South Wales visit us for the final game of our season on 20th Septemeber.
Like Abberley they always turn up en masse to finish their Devon tour with us, usually bringing keyboad etc along with them for a post-match sigalong in the bar!
Pentyrch went to unbelievable lengths to try and get the corresponding away game on earlier this season - despite the torrential rain and it would be great to field a strong side against them in the return fixture,
Early availablity again please to Hoggy (07764 849 624)

Proposed Golf Trip - St Jean de Monts (France)
18th to 21st October

Thanks to the foresight of Mrs Garnham in purchasing an appartment overlooking a golf course on the spectacular Atlantic coast of western Franceand the stupidity of Ryannair in offering £2 return (including taxes) flights to Nantes from Bournemouth airport we are considering an extended golfing weekend for club members (et al) on the above dates.
Unfortunately, having discussed this with many of you on the night of our visctory against Babbacombe I then proceeded to have a couple of shandies and lost the list of people who expressed an interest!

Thus I have booked flights for anyone I could think of from that night, plus a few more besides! At £2 a pop, to be honest its not desperately important wheteher you are actually able to make it or not! Basically, if i've booked a flight for you then I will be mailing confirmation to you and will discuss details at a later date.
Please get in touch with me Garno (07808 295 196) for more info!

Annual Dinner - The Five Bells, Clyst Hydon
Friday 24th October

After the undoubted success of the previous few years' dinners, the Five Bells have kindly once again agreed to host our annual club dinner. This year on Friday October 24th and better still the cost per head will still be £21, the same as for the last two years!

To book your places please return your booking form (sent by mail) to me, Garno (Fairlawns, Clyst Hydon, Devon, EX15 2ND) along with a cheque for the appropriate amount made payable to CHC&SC

It goes without saying that 2008 has been the most successful season in the club's history and it would be fantastic to fill the top restaurant at the Five Bells with a full houseof club members and celebrate our successes this season in style!

If you need any more info on the club dinner then please give me a ring on (07808 295 196) In addition, the league's own dinner normally takes place early in November and I'm sure this year we'll want to turn up mob-handed to collect the various cups and medals!
More info on the league dinner in due course from Foss (07812 246 659)

AGM at CHCC
Friday 31st October

The club's Annual General Meeting will be held at the clubhouse on Friday 31st October.
As well as the necessary formalities, this is normally a pretty sociable evening in its own right, plus of course, if you dn't turn up there is always the danger of being voted in for one of the vacancies!
In all seriousness, there will no doubt be plenty to talk about and possibly some league resolutions to vote on too so it'd be good to see as many of you there as can make it.

2008 Membership Subs

There are still a handful of membership subs outstanding for this season. If you have not yet got round to paying yours, please could you forward a cheque before the end of the season (payable to CHC&SC) to the trasurer: Russ Corney, 15 Barrowdale Close, Exmouth, Devon, EX8 5PN

The cost is £20 if you played your first game this season before the end of May or £10 if you played your first game after the end of May.
Social membership for non-players is £1 (as is the membership for under-18's whether players or non-players)
It is a requirement of the license for the bar that everyone who uses the club's facilities is a bona-fide paid up member, or a guest from a visiting club of which they are a member.

Right, I think that's about it!

Lets round off what's bee a fantastic season in style and we hope to see you at one of the various events above!

Cheers,

Garno
